Agar.io: Lag problem, how to reduce lag?

Hi fellas,

This is the time to make your Agar.io game faster!

agario lag problem

As you know, millions of of people all over the world loved Agar.io game. The game is published just one month ago and now it is being played by tens of thousands people. This is the screenshot I captured not, it is about 50,000 players in total, WOW!

players on agarioOn the other hand, there is not a company supporting this game yet. Agar.io is only funded by players who click the humble ad under the login screen. So the developer of Agar.io may not afford to sustain sufficient servers to run the game on.

Unfortunately these days Agar.io has a lag problem. After you start playing, your cell stops moving anytime and is eaten by another player. How sad! The worse one is your cell is eaten after it reached higher masses. So what to do, what should you do to prevent lag and play Agar.io faster?

Tips for Reducing Lag in Agar.io

1. Choose the nearest server to your location:

Hold on, now I am revealing the actual locations of Agar.io servers based on my researches. It is not just like as it is seen. Do you know Russia server is in London :) Just choose the nearest server location to your own location. This method is the most important one because it will reduce ping time (aka lag) directly.

  • US West: California (USA)
  • US East: Atlanta (USA)
  • South America: Atlanta (USA)
  • Europe: London (UK)
  • Russia: London (UK)
  • Turkey: London (UK)
  • East Asia: Singapore
  • China: Singapore
  • Oceania: Singapore

2. Disable your browser extensions and add-ons:

The extensions installed on your web browser cause extra network traffic and may slow your network connection for Agar.io game. By doing the steps instructed in following links you can disable them when you play Agar.io game.

3. Close other tabs, stop other network consuming operations:

While you are playing Agar.io laggy, you must close all other network consuming operations like downloading something, online streaming, listening music online, other web sites open at other tabs. This method will contribute much to our purpose.

4. Play Agar.io in incognito mode:

When playing in incognito mode, your browser doesn’t keep and cache information like browser cookies. Effect of this method is less compared to others but it may be worth to try.

5. Agar.io “No Skins” settings:

This is the last thing to do. Check “No Skins“. Yeah, I know everyone loves skins but this setting may make your game faster. Sometimes you have to sacrifice for something.

These actions will make you play Agar.io faster without lag. Please share your opinions and experiences after you apply these tips in the comment section below. Thanks for reading! See you in another article.

Fairly simple ways to reduce lag, although it would help some people who don’t know anything about computers. What the creator/s/dev/s need to do, is release the code, make it open source code, and other people should host it on their private sites. They should make logins necessary, and reinforce the anti-cheat/anti-hack systems. Custom servers, would also mean less lag, and more fun. Someone make this a reality!

I agree with you Garlotch, dev should make the server-side code open-source so people can play in custom rooms lag-free. That is what devs do nowadays like 2048 game.

totally agree with you both. It is not good to use scripts for a game. However people wants to play together. So we should show them the way =) Also moderator accepts agariomods to be used in game. =)
    Thanks Garlotch!

The best way i have found to reduce lag is to use internet explorer with chrome i’m forever lagging but using ie i hardly ever lag.

Nice try, it worked for me! Also refreshing the page is useful. Because with each refresh, system assigns the player to a new game server.

Well, those steps are nice to make it work better, but I have an issue….
I started playing when the amount of people was around 50k all together, but now it goes to 100k or more, so it was lagging like hell. Another thing is that I dont know if you guys noticed this, but these days I realized that the website had more ADS but for some reason you cannot see them, I checked with the tool of google chrome “the F12 button” that the ADS are spaming into my page but I cant see them and after a while the game just crashes.
You know if you know what the hell is going on these days just tell me pls!!

      Hi Bleiserman,
Do you use any extension/add-on for Agar.io? I checked network traffic now and realized that lag problem is almost resolved. There is only 6 web requests for ads and no more requests while playing the game. I wish the dev makes Agar.io faster so everyone enjoys playing Agar.io much.

      Hi Byron,
Software used in game (html5, js, web socket) is quite modern however it is an expensive thing to serve 200K players concurrently. Hope he is paid well from ads and hires more server.

      Hi,

Actually there are many ways to reduce lags, however it is hard to educate you over this blog. Also what you can try is trying other computer in same network, trying other user in your computer. If still persists, try to connect another server which is probably closer to you. Please inform us about solution.
Don’t forget to clear your computer’s cookies and trash folders which can affect your individual usage.

Hello, so I am living in the middle east and I tried everything, deleting all my extensions, going on the nearest region, going on Incognito Mode, it isn’t working… it just lags and I stand there, waiting for someone to eat me.. any other suggestions that I should do? Also, my network IS RIGHT NEXT TO ME!

      Hi Mohammed,
If you try all tips in this post, that means either:
      1. Your internet connection is bad or
      2. CPU of your PC is low.

      Hi Mohammed,
      Adding to Ibrahim;
It doesn’t matter if your router is next to you, your network capabilities are important for lags.
What you can try > reset your network, try to use another user in your computer to test network or try another network with your current user.
This will give you an idea about, either your computer or network has problems. For further, search in google about slow network connection or slow performance in win7, win8 or any software you used to use.

Thanks a lot that you share your problem with us!

Hello. So I just found an Idea on how to improve my network speed. So I thought of this idea: I will use a modem cable so that I can have a faster internet. I went on Speedtest.net and I found out the ping is 4 ms, the download speed is around 87, and my upload speed is around 77. I don’t know if these results are good or not. But I started to play longer on Agar.io. But it won’t last long enough, sometimes.. it’d stop. (Maybe when I have a mass of 130 or so.)

Also.. can you guys (Or the creator of the Agar.io game) create a server for Middle East? There are a lot of people in the middle east who experience the same kind of lag.

I have this major problem… While I’m playing, my ball tends to have a mind of it’s own. It just flies everywhere, completely out of control and sometimes slows down and goes the other direction. I get eaten really quickly and it’s frustrating. What can I do to stop that? I tried both my touchpad and mouse and the same thing happens

yea the same for me too. I think its because since Miniclip bought agar, the amount of servers has decreased, so you could be playing with people 1000s of miles away. It really sucks now.

Well, i am still trying to find out why my PC is lagging after playing for the first 2 games. In my case, i have 90 mbps network speed and it is still lagging, so it should not be the network. I then tried all of the above methods and it is still lagging. However, I see 1 out of 4 CPU usage spike out when playing. Of course, that might have something to do with different time of the day. Sometimes I play with no problem.

    All my XP lost.
I was ok for being stop at playing, but losted all 5k of XP in that GAME ????
Guys please, set that XP is getting into the stats when we playing, not after it.
This game destroyed me from outside,im so addicted and then this BUGs fucked me up !

    The lag is
found to be caused mainly when the biggest of big cells split themselves. You can usually tell b3cause then they are smaller and the server has to switch to the next biggest cell to update the leader boards. You can witness this in spectator mode. It’s the updating of server stats that make the lag…

No adblock doesn’t affect Agar.io. The ads load asynchronously with the game (first game then ads).
Enable adblock, it helps game developer a lot :)
